Sit, Stay and Learn more about the The Wilderness Dogs Academy
Here, we enroll certain puppies into our training program. We are not certified obedience trainers but we know how we want our NAIDs to behave. It is so important for this breed to have a good foundation in socialization and manners. Our goal is to produce kind, respectful and obedient members of the family and this program gives them a head start on the transition to their new home. Examples of things the pups will experience. This list is fluid, seasonal, and far from complete: |
|
🌲Car riding etiquette 🌲Sit 🌲Come 🌲Stay 🌲Leash walking 🌲Drop it/leave it 🌲Take treats nicely 🌲Kennel training 🌲House training 🌲Hiking on and off leash 🌲Beginning fetch 🌲Grooming -nail trim, ear cleaning, bath, blow dryer 🌲Staying off furniture 🌲Beginner agility (to add fun and variety) 🌲Swimming, kayaking 🌲Play time with various pups and adult dogs 🌲Indoor, problem solving games for rainy days 🌲Exposure to horses, poultry and livestock. 🌲How to properly greet new people - especially other dogs and children |
Adults and children will be involved in the training . We will intentionally rotate trainers to make the transition smooth for this pups new owner.
Training will be treat driven, toy driven and praise driven so the new owner can continue with their preferred methods.
In part to make our training age appropriate, we will do short, productive training sessions to keep attention and make it fun for everyone. Each training session ends with some playtime or fun activity.
We introduce new stimuli often to keep the pups engaged and to build confidence.
The hardest part of the Academy is that the more time we spend with each pup, the harder it is to let them go to make their own adventures (head out on their own journey etc)
Although our training sessions will come to an end, we will hand over the leash to you, their next pack leader.
